Time away together can make a profound difference for families affected by childhood cancer.
At Latch Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, holidays are an established part of the wellbeing support we offer, providing space to rest, reconnect, and enjoy moments of normal family life.
Latch holidays give children, parents, and siblings the opportunity to relax, have fun, and create lasting memories together during what is often one of the most challenging periods a family can face.
Why holidays matter
A childhood cancer diagnosis affects the whole family. Frequent hospital appointments, treatment schedules, emotional strain, and financial pressures can leave little room for rest or quality time together.
Latch holidays are designed to:
- Offer respite from the clinical environment
- Reduce the financial burden of taking a break
- Support family wellbeing and togetherness
- Create joyful experiences that families can treasure
These breaks are more than just time away; they are about restoration and connection.
Emyr and Chloe’s Latch holiday legacy
For many years, Latch supported families through complimentary seaside caravan holidays in Wales. These holidays were made possible entirely through community generosity, and the remarkable commitment of families who wanted to give something meaningful back to others facing childhood cancer.
In particular, the families and friends of Emyr Owen and Chloe Evans, alongside their local communities, played a central role in sustaining this provision.
Through their efforts families supported by Latch were able to stay at caravans in Trecco Bay, Porthcawl and Kiln Park, Tenby. These holidays offered comfort, laughter, and precious time together after long periods of treatment and uncertainty.
The legacy of Emyr and Chloe has helped to shape Latch’s approach to family holidays today.
Our current holiday offering
Latch continues to provide free holidays for families we support, delivered in a way that ensures accessibility, quality, and sustainability for the future.
From March 2026, Latch families may be offered a complimentary holiday at Bluestone National Park Resort, made possible through our partnership with Bluestone Resorts Limited.
These holidays are designed to give families the time and space to rest, reconnect, and enjoy being together in a supportive and family-friendly environment.
There are also a number of other charities that offer support for families with respite care and holidays for children on treatment and the whole family.
Below is a list of charities. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and Latch does not take responsibility for ensuring that these suggestions will be appropriate for everyone.
