LATCH’s Emyr Owen Branch, based in Porthcawl fundraise tirelessly throughout the year in order to raise essential funds for LATCH, and are responsible for the purchase of two caravans, known as Emyr’s Karavanz4theKidz, at Park Dean, Porthcawl.
The Karavanz provide a lifeline to families who are going through the gruelling experience of a child’s treatment for cancer or leukaemia and are available free of charge, helping the whole family to have a much-needed holiday by the sea.
Emyr Owen Branch, founded by Emyr’s mum, Sandra Owen, along with Emyr’s father, Kevin and brother, Huw, has raised in excess of £400,000 since its inception and their most recent fundraising drive has been to ensure a complete upgrade of the two Karavans, Magnolia and Sycamore just in time for the new season.
Emyr’s Karavan4theKidz are extremely popular with LATCH families, and the upgrade will ensure families have the best possible time, in one of the UK’s most loved destinations.
Sandra, who recently became a Trustee at LATCH, commented: “I’m amazed at the standard of the upgrade, and encourage all families currently being supported by LATCH to book themselves a break to experience some much needed respite and fun.”
She added: “We are indebted to Christian and Michelle Evans and Paul and Helen who were not only part of purchasing both of Emyr’s Karavan4theKidz at the start, but have ensured that they are maintained to the high standard required ever since. We would also like to thank Caravan Warehouse and Elaine for their hard work and commitment to the ongoing upkeep of the caravans, and we are indebted to the ongoing support of the local community who consistently help up to ensure all costs are met and that children and their families can make so many special lifelong memories.”
