LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Susan A E Gwyer-Roberts, Deputy Lieutenant of Gwent, as Chairperson following the recent retirement of Ian Rogers.
Susan is a highly experienced and successful professional, with a proven track record of achievement and dedication to public service in Wales.
A former secondary Headteacher for sixteen years, a Lay Member and Trustee of the Council at Cardiff University from 2010 to 2016, Vice Chair of Governors at Christ College Brecon, 2018-19, and an additional Estyn Inspector, Susan has substantial expertise in leadership, governance and quality assurance which will be of great benefit to LATCH.
Previous experience as Chairperson has been gained as Chair of Statutory School Budget Forum for Monmouthshire County Council, the HRH Prince William Award Steering Committee, Strategic Development Committee Christ College Brecon and iNet Wales.
Throughout Susan’s career, and in her role as Deputy Lieutenant, she has spoken widely at high profile events, conferences and seminars and national gatherings which will prove to be of enormous benefit to LATCH, with its focus on volunteer-led fundraising activities, and it is her intent to be very much hands-on with her approach.
Susan commented: “I am truly honoured to be appointed Chairperson of Wales’ leading childhood cancer charity, and I look forward to working closely with Philip Price QC, LATCH President, the Board of Trustees and Jade Morgan, LATCH General Manager, to help drive forward LATCH’s ambitious plans for the coming years.”
She continued: “There are a number of challenges facing the charity sector at present, not least the uncertain economic climate, but I am certain that our passionate volunteers and fundraisers will continue to be the bedrock to our success as we approach our fortieth year providing essential support for children with cancer and leukaemia from across Wales.”
